Giving Back

Louisa Rotarians have two major opportunities to "give something back" to the community.

The first of these is focused on Louisa Children and youth.  Child Literacy has been a signature project of our club for  many years.  From the earliest years of natal care, Louisa Rotary donates children's books to the Louisa Health Clinic for new mothers to read to their newborns.  The club is seeking ways to expand this program to include books to mothers up through Age 6.  These early years are crucial to the formulation of language and reading skills so critical to success in school and later in life.

Another aspect of child literacy is the a dictionary for every 3rd, 4th, and 5th Grader in Louisa Schools.  This even includes home schooled children.

Another feature of Child Literacy is the Children's Reading Room at the Louisa County Public Library.  Louisa Rotary has been donating children's books to this reading room for many years.

A second opportunity lies with high school students at Louisa County High School.  Louisa Rotary Club sponsors a youth service organization at the High School called INTERACT.  This voluntary service organization chooses its own service projects throughout the school year.  They frequently call on the club for some modest level of help -- either financial or materials help or donated food items.  Our club does its best to help when asked.  At the High School, the club also sponsors two scholarships for graduating seniors. One is an academic scholarship, the other vocational.
